Correspondence from our CAM
Did you know that rather than waiting in line at the front gate each month to get this newsletter, you can read it in the comfort of your own home? Here are some interesting facts from our resident computer website guru, Char Lafferty AKA Smurfette. In 2008 the site was accessed 25,962 times, the activities page 6,878, the administration page 3, 031. Individual activities averaged 300 hits with the Ladies Fire Auxiliary having 551, the Fire Dept. with 508, Ballroom dancing 376. Not bad for our first full year of operation. Check it out at www.retireflorida.org. If you would like updates for your group or perhaps your group is not on the website and would like to be, contact Charleen at 200-5205.
Just another quick note, on the lines of our growing community, please remember to be respectful of others while using the community center. It belongs to ALL High Point homeowners. We have just one room and we have to SHARE the precious space we have.
Travel Club by Trey Jordan
Hello Hi Pointers. Well the Travel Club has a few things going on. February 11th we are going to Sleuths Mystery Dinner Theater in Orlando. The show is always great and the food, beer and wine are good too. On February 18th we are going to Tampa Bay Downs for some Horse Racing, lunch and hopefully win some cash. We are going to the Strawberry Festival in Plant City on March 4th. Brenda Lee will be performing at 3:30 pm for those that want to see her show. On March 25th we are going to The Mission Inn for lunch, the Ya La Ha Bakery and the Lakeridge Winery. April fool’s day we have a mystery trip with lunch included. On these trips you don’t know where you are going or what you are doing. These trips are always fun and what a great way to celebrate April 1st. On April 15th we will be going to the Ringling Museum and home in Sarasota, Fl. You will visit the beautifully restored home of John and Mable Ringling Ca d’Zan. Come on out and see what else we are up to at The Travel Club. We meet the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month in our Community Center at 11:00 am. See you there!
Mobile Patrol by Ed Oleszek
The mobile patrol is an organization that helps provide a secure environment for the residents of High Point. The mobile patrol renders an important service through regular observation of the community streets and homes which helps to keep our neighborhoods safe.
We are the extra eyes and ears for the Sheriff’s dept. Should a problem occur during any of our patrols, we contact the sheriff’s
office. We do not deal with the problem ourselves. Along the same line of thought,
if any of you have a problem, do not hesitate to make the call. As soon as the problem is noticed – call 911 sheriff’s dept. for emergencies, if not an emergency, call the office of the sheriff at 352-754-6830 and state the problem.
The time saved by calling the sheriff’s dept. immediately and not calling the gate guard could mean the difference of a crime in progress and a crime stopped.
Remember: If you see something suspicious. Report it!!!!

Garden Club by President, Lynn Trotter
Happy Valentine’s Day!!!
How about that freezing cold snap recently. Even if you covered your plants, I am sure they still froze. Remember; do not cut them back until the end of February or the middle of March. Unfortunately we will still have a few more nights of freezes possible.
I want to thank Becky Shill and the Quilters club for their generous contribution to the garden club recently of $200.00. Also the Social Club for their generous contribution of $2000.00. I assure you we will keep the flowers blooming (once the freeze is over) and holiday decorations glowing.
February 19th, Thursday is our membership meeting at 10:30 a.m. with a pot luck brunch, share the wealth, and most important, meeting with friends.
My goal for 2009 is 10 new members. At our January meeting two new members joined but we still need 8 more people. Hope to see a few new faces at our February 19th meeting.
Our Easter Memorial drive will be in full gear February and March. Anyone wishing to donate in memory of a loved one may do so at anytime by placing their donation in an envelope with your name and the name of your loved one. Bring the envelope to the office and they will place it in my mail slot. These donations will purchase the flowers and plants that we shape into a cross in front of the information booth which is usually done by Good Friday. Afterward, your name is given to the information booth where you may pick up your flower or plant after the holiday.
If you have any questions, please call me. My cell # 346-5636.
Congratulations to the February beauty spots:
