Correspondence from our CAM I would like to thank all our snowbirds who where kind enough to take the time to check with the office and update their emergency contact file before heading north. For all those High Pointers who are holding down the fort we need one for you too! Plans are underway for High Point’s annual 4th of July festivities! All those interested in participating in the parade, please stop by the office for an entry form. All forms need to be in by June 1st. High Point’s 2008 audit has been completed and we passed with flying colors. Per the auditor, our performance in these tough economic times is to be commended. The Board of Directors has done an excellent job of anticipating budgetary needs of the community. Copies of the financial report are available at the office.
Travel Club by Trey Jordan Summer is upon us! The weather so far has been great, but as we know the heat in just a couple of months will be turned up. May 13th Derby Lane (Lunch incl. $40.00) May 21st Starlite Majesty Cruise Lunch & Entertainment The travel club is going to Yellowstone, Mt. Rushmore and the Gran Tetons. The cost of this tour is $1259.00 plus airfare and there are multiple dates available. In October we are going to New England for a trip into Maine and New Hampshire to see the Fall colors and do some very exciting travels in the grand state of Maine along with a tour of the White Mountains of New Hampshire. We also have a cruise in January of 2010 to the deep Caribbean on the Ruby Princess. We have a 4 night cruise in January on the Monarch of the Seas out of Port Canaveral going to Nassau and Coco Cay. So come on out and see what the travel club is up to. We meet the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month in our community center at 11:00 a.m. Mobile Patrol by Ed Oleszek More helpful hints for all residents! Many are leaving to go back up North or wherever, so let’s all make sure our homes and our neighbor’s places are secure. This means keeping an eye on homes near and around your place for unwanted newspapers, phone books and anything else that accumulates in ours or their driveways. Remember keeping driveways clean helps deter the look of someone not living there. Everyone should also be ready for any possible heavy winds during the upcoming hurricane season. Please make sure everything is secure in and around your home. Have a safe and healthy summer; everyone!
High Point Golf Club by Katie Russell Things are quieting down for the summer. Just as a reminder, from May 1st thru Sept. 1st the golf course is open to home owners who may want to golf. All you need to do is go with a member and try us out. Green fees are $16.00 for 18 holes or $9.00 for 9 holes. The club house café’ is open to everyone. We have shortened summer hours. At the bar you can check out our specials. You can enjoy breakfast, lunch and Tuesday and Friday evening dinners. The 4th of July we will be serving food and drink specials. Can’t wait to see you.
Garden Club by President, Lynn Trotter Our annual picnic was held at the horseshoe court on Thursday, April 16th and was very successful. There was plenty of food, games and a few brave souls playing horseshoes. Hope all enjoyed the Easter Memorial this year at the information booth, with the Easter Lilies in full bloom. May begins chinch bug season for St. Augustine lawns. Remember to mow lawns 3 to 4 inches high with sharp mower blades. Plant Coleus, Impatiens, Marigolds and Morning Glories. Remember impatiens like a shaded area. Congratulations to the May beauty spots: Michael & Sharon Sharp Lavel Martello 8008 Fairlane Ave. And Harry & Muriel Tremain 7477 Highpoint Blvd.
Pool News: Sr. Pool Monitor, Kathleen Cerro Well, Spring break is over and were we ever busy. It’s our busiest time of the year. Our Hawaiian pool party was a great success. Approximately 130 residents and friends attended. Pictures are posted in front of the office and at the pool. The variety and abundance of food was fabulous. Thanks to all who attended. Pool hours for May are 9 am to 6 pm Mon-Sat. Sunday 10 am to 6 pm. Water aerobics is going strong with many new faces and of course our regulars. The water temperature is warm enough to be therapeutic for all. Classes will be at 10:30 am Mon, Wed. & Fri. I would like to remind everyone not to try and adjust the umbrellas. They break very easily. Please ask your pool monitor to adjust them for you. They will be happy to help you. Remember the pool people are the cool people. Hope to see you at the pool.
Sheriff’s Wellness Check Hernando County Sheriff’s office has a program called CARE LINE. It works like this: once registered, you must call the CARE LINE between 7 am and 11 am daily. Should they not hear from you, they will call the contact you have listed on your form. If that fails, a deputy will be dispatched to your home to check on your well being. To participate you need to request an application from the Sheriff’s office at 754-6830 or our office and return it to the Sheriff’s Office.
