Correspondence from our CAM
Are these the slow days of August? You can’t tell by High Point, as things are still busy. No more rolling up the sidewalks in the Summer time. The community is still bustling with activities. Soon we will be welcoming back our snowbirds, but I would like to thank each and every one of the “year rounders”. They are our unsung heroes for holding down the fort by volunteering their time, not only keeping all the various clubs running, but keeping a watchfully eye out for their neighbors. THANK YOU!
COMMUNITY CENTER WILL BE CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS FROM AUGUST 17TH
THRU AUGUST 29TH.
Travel Club by Trey Jordan
Well the travel club is taking a short hiatus in August, so we will not be having any trips in August except the one trip to the Show Palace. Do to the economy we felt that it would be wiser to wait until September to start up again. We do have a number of cruises and a New England trip planned for the Fall and Winter. The New England trip is in October and the cruises start in January. We have a four night cruise to the Bahamas and a 10 night cruise to the southern Caribbean. We have bookings for the Fall of 2010 for a Panama Canal cruise and for a Western Caribbean cruise out of Tampa. There will only be one meeting in August as the Community Center will be closed the second half of the month. We will start back with two meetings a month in September. We meet the second and the fourth Thursday of each month at 11:00 am. Come on out and see what your travel club is up to!
Mobile Patrol by Ed Oleszek
Crime Watch Groups – Light up your homes
It is National Night out. We will be hosting National night out in the community center. This will be held on August 4th at 4
pm. This event is free and is for High Point residents ONLY.
Mobile patrol will supply a BBQ with side dishes, along with entertainment. Tickets are available at the Community Center Office. There are only 200 tickets available. You must have a ticket to attend. If you have any questions you can contact me at 596-2876.
Crime Watch
Please make sure you lock and secure your vehicle and home at all times. There have been several reports of break-ins in the community. So it is better to be safe than sorry.
Anyone interested in running for the HPCPO Board in the November election, please contact Guy Peters at 398-4433.
High Point Golf Club by Katie Russell
Wow! What a hot and wet summer we are having. It doesn’t stop us golfers though, with the closing of two area golf courses and others in jeopardy, High Point is the best bargain around. Where can you go (a single membership) and golf for an average of $3.75 a day for a year??
Our golf club café is open to everyone. We have shortened summer hours and we ask that you sign up for Tuesday and Friday evening dinners. Doug has some great food and we invite you to come for lunch, dinner or Sunday breakfast.
The bar is open and we have soda, ice cold beer and your favorite mixed drink. Please give us a try.
Garden Club by President, Lynn Trotter
Heat tolerant annuals like Coleus, Impatiens, Marigolds, Salvia, and Wax Begonia are good choices to be planted now for color until the first frost. If you have poinsettias, lightly prune one last time at the end of August for colorful bracts for the holidays.
Most of the yards in High Point are looking pretty good do to the July rainfall. Remember a sharp mower blade cuts; a dull mower blade tears the leaves and stresses the lawn.

High Point Bowlers
We will have an organizational meeting on August 11, 2009 at 2 pm in the community center. If you have already signed up to bowl this year, wish to sign up and be placed on a team, or have previously signed up and now
cannot bowl, please come to the meeting. If
you cannot make the meeting, PLEASE call
Arlene Creger at 592-4911 so teams can be
finalized.
Food for the Hungry
There will be a free dinner for the hungry at the Senior Citizens Club of Hernando County on Sunday, August 9th and 23
between 4-6 pm at 7925 Rhanbouy Road, Spring Hill. This is free to all those in need. For additional information you can call 573-4178.
Tips for the Month
It’s Hurricane Season!
Take note of items around your property that could become a projectile during high winds. Anything that could cause damage or injury to you or your neighbors should be removed or stored away. Dead trees should be removed. They could fall onto your roof and home and cause extensive damage.
It is also important to keep your gutters clean and free of leaves and debris. Water will build up if the debris is not cleaned out of the gutter, which in turn can cause major damage. The water can kick back into the home, which in turn will rot wood, damage flooring, invite termites and of course the “Worst Enemy”- MOLD: which can make you very sick or kill you. Please have your gutters checked/cleaned at least twice a year.
Please come to the front office and fill out an emergency contact form if you haven’t already. If for some reason you have to leave the community and we need to contact you, this is very important.
