Well here we are in the “Heart” of our busy season. The Community is bustling with activity! For those of you homeowners who rent your property for the season or anytime, please remember to abide by not only our by-laws but also those of Hernando County. The minimum term for a rental is 90 days. As the property owner you are required to register your tenant with the office by filing a lease addendum and to make sure your tenant has complied with the background checking process. PLEASE do not accept, “I have rented for years” or “I have already been processed”. It is your responsibility to confirm these facts with the office and provide the necessary paperwork. I would also like to mention that you will soon be receiving your 2010 Census request in the mail. Failure to return the form will result in a census taker coming to your home sometime between April and July. More information will follow in next months newsletter.

February 2010 Vol. 6 Number 2
At the last meeting of all the crime watch groups in Hernando County, which was held at the Sheriff’s Office in Dec., our Mobile Patrol liaison reported at our general meeting that the Sheriff and his Area Commander said that High Point’s crime has been the lowest of all groups for 2009. We were very proud to hear that. But thanks must be given to all the Mobile Patrol volunteers, along with a special thanks to all the High Point folks who are aware of suspicious goings-on in our area and report same to 911. Thanks again High Pointers for helping keep our homes and Community safe.
Important Health Notice! We’ve identified a new strain of flu in High Point. It is the “illegal parking bug” and seems to be breaking out in pockets throughout the community. This is a particularly hardy virus that is difficult to eradicate. Just when we think individuals have been cured, relapses occur. This highly contagious virus requires all members of the community to be vigilant in preventing its spread. Here is the prescription for survival of this scourge; All vehicles must be parked on the driveway, under the carport or on an approved parking pad adjacent to the driveway. Vehicles parked on the median or empty lots may be towed away at the owner’s expense - High Point basic rules and regulations. Thank you for your help in fighting this disease. The lawn you save may be your own!
Don’t forget to pick up the fruit on the ground. It causes fruit rats if not picked up.

Use Florida-friendly lawn and garden practices today. Fertilizers applied improperly can run off lawns into local springs, streams, lakes, rivers & into the Gulf. The results can harm our waterways, plants and animals, that depend on sparkling water to survive. 1. Don’t fertilize before it rains. 2. Sweep up any fertilizer spilled on paved areas or any excess on the lawn and place it back in the fertilizer bag. 3. Use only slow-release fertilizer. 4. leave a 10 foot no pesticide, no-fertilizer zone around water bodies. 5. Fertilize only twice a year and only during the growing season. Your efforts will help reduce groundwater nutrient levels now and for the future. Skip watering for a week—your lawn only needs water every other week in the Winter.

Finally its getting warm enough for the pool to open up again. I wanted to let everyone know the policy on the opening of our pool: The air temperature needs to be projected to be 65 degrees by Noon or the pool will not open. If in doubt, call the pool directly at 596-4342.
The water is still quite cool for most of us. We have a few polar bears that prefer the cold water and we have many sun bathers. The monitors and I look forward to seeing all of you.
